The Stay In The Camper

"The Stay In The Camper " was written on February 13, 2021 , a day before St. Valentines Day !

(I wrote this story on the drive to my Mom's 81st Birthday gathering )

It's a story  about a couple who stayed strong

and together with Christ they listened"

It was in the 1970's and the winter was harsh.  My Father was working at a factory for Chrysler Corp. at that time.  And the electric bills was becoming outrageous to heat our lovely large home.  Because the winter was long , Mom and Dad decided to move into our camper.  Our two older brothers were already moved out and on their own. But my parents still had four children in High School and their youngest in Elementary. It didn't surprise me that they made such a drastic move , for they always showed us children we were first. My two sister's and I slept in the camper with our parents and we thought it was a blast !  My other older two brother's slept in the basement of our home and it had it's own living quarters. The electric was kept on low heat and they used electric blanket's to keep warm. Our camper had all the essential's ; kitchen, bathroom, bunkhouse with beds, and living room.  There was a small T.V. in the camper, and we looked forward in watching our favorite movies after school. My mom never complained about staying in the camper.  She always had a wonderful meal ready for us when we came home from school.  We always had popcorn in the evening, and watched " Little House On The Prairie " and "The Walton's."

I remember we had a lot of snow around our camper , and we had to walk down our long lane to catch the bus. Our bus driver was a preacher and he always greeted us with a smile and often singing a hymn !

We never really thought about what people might think of us ; about us staying in our camper. We never thought about  anyone  judging us .  During our little adventure in the camper we prayed "The Scriptural Rosary" and prayed for the world.  Now that I look back at our time in the camper ; what were the lessons learned ? Dad did what he could to provide. He knew he had to step back , observe the situation , and make a move for the better of the family. I also believed it showed love and unity of the family pulling together.  It taught us that life isn't always about ourselves, wants, and needs.  It allowed us to know when life becomes difficult changes has to be made . In our everyday living I believe God  will prompt us to step back, observe, and to have less distractions.  He will sometimes place us in unknown and  uncomfortable situations we are unsure of.  It's exactly what "The Stay In The Camper" showed us.  It's through our trust in God , and allowing him to" Steer the ship in the harsh waves." But it is us who help keep it smooth sailing in the right path.

Thanks my beloved Dad ,

always wise and listening to God's Voice +++
