On July 15, 1994, was the end of the Genocide in
Rwanda Africa. I often wonder as I look back in
April of 1994, what was happening
in our own lives
and the events around us!
The outbreak of the genocide began on April 7th.
In USA we were celebrating Easter in April and
in May we had Mother's Day! We also had the
celebration of Memorial weekend. Honoring those
who served and lost their lives while defending
their country.
At the end of May and first week of June
our schools were out for their summer
break!
And then in the month of June we had the
celebration of Father's Day! June is also the
time for family fun and vacations.
On July 4th here in
America, we celebrate our Independence Day!
It's the birth of American independence.
We have fireworks, parades, and concerts
family gatherings and barbecues.
July 15, 1994, was finally the end
of the massacres of the Rwanda people.
They must have felt frozen in time!
They must have been in disbelief of what was
happening in their own homes, villages, and
cities! Their fears of being found and
murdered and thinking of their own
loved one's day to day! And always being
in question of their whereabouts
and if they were
still alive and safe.
They were constantly in prayer
asking for God's protection to save them.
Sadly, the International Community largely
ignored the genocide in Rwanda. They
had a weak statement of labeling it
an internal conflict.
They were informed
of the genocide taking place
and turned a blind eye.
The evil plan
continued of the massacres among
thousands and thousands of
innocent lives on a daily basis.
Finally, the Rwandan Patriotic Front
(RPF) overthrew the Hutu government and
seized power.
After three months of terror the Tutsis
and even some Hutus who were risking
their own lives in hiding them
were finally safe!
