Holy Thursday is the commemoration of The Last Supper of Jesus Christ , when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. It also commemorates his institution of the priesthood. The holy day falls on the Thursday before Easter , and is part of Holy week. Jesus celebrated the dinner as a Passover feast . Christ would fulfill his role as the Christian victim of the Passover for all to be saved by his finale sacrifice (crucifixion) .

John Ch 6 Verses 53-56 (Christ in the Eucharist)
Truly truly I say to you , unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood,
you have no life in you, he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me , and I in him.

John Ch 6 Verses 60-66
Many of his disciples rejected Christ teachings and his words in the Holy Eucharist at the
Last Supper. Many drew back and no longer followed him.
Both the Jews, who were suspicious of him and his disciples, who had accepted everything up to this point, would have remained with him had he said he was speaking only symbolically.

cannot hold me. That is why I said you

Jesus continued "When you lift up
the son of man you will come to
realize that I AM and that I do
nothing by myself.
