The Voice on the Other Side
On March 21, 2025, my youngest son, and I went to a restaurant for
lunch. We went to our table with our food and before I sat down
I needed to go the restroom. I remember passing by this man standing by a table
as if he was waiting on someone. I went to the restroom that only had two
stalls. I went in the larger one and heard a voice on the other side.
I could tell it was an elderly woman, and I thought maybe she was
talking to someone on her cell phone. Then I heard her mumbling
to herself and she asked if someone could open her door. I quickly
replied, "Yes, just a minute!" She quietly said, "O-K."
I opened her door and just left a small crack. She told me thank you!
I went back to my stall and could hear her mumbling to herself again.
She began to blurt out that she couldn't get up and if someone
could help her! I didn't answer her right away and I actually paused
to see if I could figure out what was going on.
But the voice on the other side asked for help again and I knew
I couldn't ignore her. I answered back in saying, "Yes, just a minute!"
I didn't know what I was about to get myself into, but I knew I had
to respond. I opened her door, and she was helplessly sitting on her stool.
I noticed water was on the floor all around her. Thank goodness I had
Tennis shoes on that day because I had to stand in it! I told her I can help
her stand up and she replied in saying she didn't want to hurt me by doing so.
She was short and a little on the heavy side, but I wanted to try!
I reached out my arms to her and we tried to stand her up but she couldn't
even stand. I noticed her little black flats were sliding on the wet floor and
her cane was useless as well. I blocked her feet with my feet, she held onto
my arms again and she was able to stand! Her spirits seemed to be a little better.
I noticed she had depends on underneath her jeans and they were both dry. I came to a conclusion
I was only standing in water thank goodness!
She needed help pulling them up. I had her place her hands against
the wall as I helped put her all together! I had a little
difficulty doing this task, but my long-ago nurse's aide skills kicked in!
At this point things were looking good, and we began preceding out of
the small stall. I held onto her arm with her small steps. We were close to
the sink and I said, "Lets skip washing our hands!" I noticed the paper towel
was in reach. So, I pulled out a long piece of paper towel and placed it in front
of her feet. I asked her to step on the paper towel to dry off the bottoms of
her shoes. She did as I asked, and I felt better as we got closer to
the door leading out into the restaurant.
I finally opened up the door and it seemed like an eternity! I was never
so happy to see people! She meekly looked up to me and said, "How can
I ever repay you?" I smiled at her and said, "Bless you!" I also realized it
was the first time I ever seen her face to its fullest. The whole time I was
looking at the water on the floor and her clothes, hands, and feet.
When we finally got out into the dining area. I asked if she can
see her family? She looked confused and couldn't find them.
She finally spotted her son waiting on the outside of the restaurant
glass doors! He was the man I earlier passed by before I went in the restroom.
She was so happy and walked on out to be with him!
My first thought was I hope this experience doesn't keep her from going out to
more restaurants together! I returned to my table to join with my son, who was
still eating his meal. I asked him if he wondered what took me so long? He replied, "No!"
I told him I have a story to tell you!
I was blessed that day for I touched Jesus in disguise🕇

note: I did mention about the water on the bathroom floor
to a busy staff worker who was heading out the door to deliver
food for a waiting vehicle! She said, "Oh! I think we have
a leaky toilet!"
