The Swooping Bat
There was a time way back in late August of 1988, my husband
and I had just bought our second home. It was a two-story home built in 1880.
We had lived there for a few weeks, and my husband was checking out the old
Bengamin Franklin woodstove that sat in the living room. He must have left the
door opened for a short while because now my story unfolds.
Late that evening I was tired and being eight months pregnant with our second
child I decided to go to bed early. I was drifting into to sleep and I felt
a flutter flying over my face. I immediately knew it was a bird. I hurried and
fled into my connected bathroom that has another door leading out into the
hallway. I quickly ran into the living room where my husband was and our
two-year-old daughter was sleeping on the couch. I yelled out to my husband!
"There is a bird flying around in our bedroom!" He said, "No way!" I said,
Yes, there is! "I felt it flying over me!" He ran to get the broom in the utility room
that is next to our bedroom with the bat! Meanwhile, I return back into my bathroom
and shut both doors! My daughter was still fast asleep on the couch!
The bat was still in our bedroom sitting on a built-in shelf!
Remember, this was an old house with many opening doorways. Every time
my husband would strike at the bat it would quickly
keep flying and swooping around and around going through the doorways.
I'm still in the bathroom hearing all the commotion and feeling guilty that
my daughter is still asleep on the couch! My husband kept timing it just right
as he kept hitting the bat and trying to get out the front door!
Finally! The bat landed against the brick wall behind the Bengamin Franklin
woodstove! My husband took a good hit at the bat, and it feel to the ground.
Needless to say, the bat was dead! My husband swooped it out our front
living room door and he noticed it had a tag on it from a nearby university!
He removed the metal tag and we mailed it to the university.
I must tell you my daughter slept through it all!🦇

Note The bathroom with the two doors is
the bathroom I had "My Conversion" in 1992.
And the bedroom with the bat is where the Crosses began on
February 12, 1994. The bedroom is connected to the bathroom
that goes out into the hallway.
The Bible and the Bat
My family quietly enter into our church at St. Lawrence. The time period was
in the early 1990's. We had all four of our children at that time. We were
patiently waiting for Mass to begin. Suddenly, a bird began swooping down over
us and flying above the people who were sitting in their pews!
I looked at my husband and said, "I can't stay here with a bird flying around!"
My husband said, "It's a bat!"
At this time the priest makes his way back of the church, holding a bible and waiting
for Mass to begin. He could see all of the commotion and concerned looks from
the people! The priest spotted the bat and hit it with his bible! The bat was
taken down and dead! It was a scene of "The Priest verses the Bat."
We all had a chuckle and a sigh of relief!
Needless to say, the ushers took care of the bat!
